Trees, Rivers & Lakes
I have always felt a strong connection to trees so it is probably no coincidence that this is my largest gallery. Most of these images were taken in Germany; other locations include Mallorca (Spain), Italy and Canada.
Hesse, Germany
Often I re-visit the same trees in and around my home in Kassel at different times of the year, enjoying how the different seasons influence my perception of them.
Dense and thickly wooded, the nearby ancient forest (Urwald) of Reinhardswald exerts a special pull; I like to take longs walks there, immersing myself in the majestic presence of centuries-old trees. I have yet to take a photo in Reinhardswald that truly captures the emotions it stimulates, but I am working on it :-)
Lower Bavaria, Germany
I lived near Straubing in “Niederbayern” for 8 years. My children still live there so I often visit. When time permits I love to walk in the Bavarian Forest, especially in places where there are rivers and streams such as the “Bogenbach”, a tributary that flows into the famous Danube.
Rügen, Germany
Germany's largest island is located in the north east of the country. The Jasmund National Park is famous for beech trees and chalk cliffs.
It was Winter when I visited; my memories are dominated by wind, rain, and the Baltic Sea.
Spain & Italy
Mallorca: My favourite Balearic island offers a wealth of inspiration when you head inland, away from the (in Summer) over-crowded tourist beaches. One day I might retire there.
Italy: A frequent holiday destination - not only to enjoy the great food and wine but also to dance Argentine Tango!
British Columbia, Canada
The BC photographs were taken in a forest in Langley, ca. 80 km east of Vancouver, Canada.
